Summer training is an essential component of running cross country. All cross country athletes should participate in some form of summer training. Upon sign up for XC, athletes will be provided with a custom training plan based on their current fitness level and goals for the cross country season. It is well understood that most cross country athletes also participate in winter and spring sports. The NHS Cross Country Program recognizes and understands the data backed importance of maintaining a life balance with athletic disciplines. Our program views mental health and rest as an essential component of training. Therefore, there are no required summer sessions for cross country. Athletes are encouraged to train as it fits to their schedule and use the summer months to enjoy time with their friends and families, work summer jobs, and take a pause from the day to day structure of required practices.
